Exercise - Are Your Gym Workouts Harming Your Health?
Many people in the United States chose to work out in gyms across the country. And for most people this is the only way they could stay motivated. But can your gym be a breeding ground for airborne pathogens?
There are a lot of people who chose to use gyms to work out and exercise, and would have it no other way. Exercising at the gym also involves social and personal interaction with others, and so the attraction to working out at the gym is multifaceted. But there are several things that go wrong in the gym, least of all getting hurt by weight falling on your head or your toes.
All of our in a survey done several months ago people were asked why they choose to go to a gym rather than work out at home. The number one reason that most people gave was that I gym provides incentives, and encouragement to work out an exercise. Also on the top five is the fact that you can get help, and advised with some membership. Others say that they like the social interaction, and some even said it's a great way to meet "new people".
These are all good and well and I guess if you pay on gym membership to our more likely to go because you're actually spending money. But beware of the dangers of working out in the gym.
The air in the gym is filled with all different kinds of harmful chemicals, bacterias, viruses, and allergens. The air quality in a gym is very low and is usually about 10 times more polluted than outdoor air in a big city. This is because most gyms air conditioning system blows back pollutants in the air. Also added to this fact is hundreds of people, sweating, gasping, heavy breathing, and releasing toxins, and bacteria from their lungs and even through their skin. All of this mixture goes into the air filter and then is recycled back into the air. This is not the type of environment that is most beneficial to workouts and exercising.
Many of equipment, that being, carpeting, and other infrastructure in the gym gives off toxic fumes for months and months. You could be breathing in this air which can make you sick.
Added to this fact is the issue of noise pollution. Most of the music in gyms and loud obnoxious and continuous. This has an adverse effect on the brain during vulnerable time in your workout. It also affects your air drum and a small board in your inner ear. Remember that during workouts blood is that averted from non-critical areas to the areas that need it the most. And because of this the small board in the inner ear is left vulnerable.
The machines in gyms should be cleaned at least once a day, depending on which gym you go to this may or may not be true. So sharing equipment can increase your chance of getting bacterial infection, are viral infection. So there are so many risk involved in trying to get a good workout.
My advice is to work out in the safety and convenience of your own home, or even better exercise in the open air outdoors. This we are getting the maximum amount of oxygen, fresh air, and sunshine vitamin D.
If you bust join a gym because of whatever reason, then at least make sure that they have specialized air conditioning units, that circulates and filters the air every few minutes or seconds. This would at least decrease your chances of breathing in stale and even toxic air.
